The Danish documentary Almost Human had its international premiere at Robert de Niro’s New York-based film festival unspooling April 24-May 5.
Screened at the Tribeca X programme celebrating the best collaborations between artists and brands, Almost Human was produced by Mette Jermiin and Birgitte Rask with the backing from the Carlsberg Foundation.
Narrated by Stephen Fry, the thought-provoking science-based essay asks questions about our relationship with technology through encounters with ten of the world’s foremost researchers, specialised in philosophy, anthropology, archaeology and programming. The film edited by Nanna Frank Møller (You& Me Forever) had its world premiere at CPHDOX and its Danish premiere at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek on March 21.

Other Nordic entries at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival include the Swedish/Scottish film Scheme Birds screening in the Documentary competition section. The film explores a part of Scotland plagued by violence, unemployment and crime through an intimate portrait of teenage girl Gemma, her family and friends. The film is co-directed by Ellen Fiske, a graduate from the Stockholm Academy of Dramatic Arts and Ellinor Hallin, cinematographer of Lukas Moodysson’s upcoming HBO Nordic’s series Gösta.
