Released in Italian cinemas November 11 by Lucky Red and Universal after its world premiere at the Rome Film Festival, the coming of age movie about the formative years of football champion Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scored with a second place at the top ten after the US tentpole Eternals.

According to Nordisk Film which issued a statement, it is the largest opening for a non-Italian European film during the pandemic and the third largest opening in Italy after Tenet and Dune. The film also performed better in its first few days on Italian screens than similar sports-inspired biopics such as Borg Vs McEnroe, I Tonya and Ali.

The 40-year-old Ibrahimovic enjoys a large fan base in Italy, as one of AC Milan’s star players, likely to renew his contract with the club beyond 2022, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The film which is based on David Lagercrantz and Ibrahimovic's book ‘I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic’, is released in Italy by one of the largest indie distributors Lucky Red.

TrustNordisk has licensed the film to numerous other territories including Germany/Austria (Telepool), Switzerland (Ascot Elite), Benelux (September), the Baltics (Estinfilm).

The Swedish release orchestrated by Nordisk Film- delayed several times due to Covid-19 - is now set for January 14, 2022.

The film was produced by Frida Bargo, Mattias Nohrborg and Fredrik Heinig for BR.F, with support among others from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
