Iceland's animation studio CAOZ is going to unveil in Cannes a teaser of its stereoscopic 3D full length animation film Thor - The Edda Chronicles, already pre-sold to around 20 territories including Rosen in Germany and Filmkompaniet OY in Finland. Munich-based Telepool is handling world sales.

The €7.2m Thor - the Edda Chronicles is co-produced with Germany's Ulysses Films and Ireland's Magma Productions, with support from the Icelandic Film Centre and Nordisk Film & TV Fond among others. The animation film is directed by Oskar Jonasson with CAOZ's in-house animation expert Gunnar Karlsson and Germany's Toby Genkel.

Based on the Edda chronicles, the story focuses on the young blacksmith Thor, said to be the son of Odin, King of the Gods. He has to fight an army of Giants who take his friends to Hel, the Queen of the Underworld. Delivery date is set for mid 2011. Sena will handle domestic distribution.

According to Hilmar Sigurðsson, CAOZ CEO and producer of Thor with Arnar Thorisson, the project had a major boost at the end of 2009 when private investors Titan Investments, Hilmar Gunnarsson and Bru II Venture Capital Fund injected an extra €1.8m to broaden the film-and CAOZ-'s potential on the international market. The private investors, who now own a majority stake in CAOZ, are going to "help the company broaden the concept of Thor into multiple platforms and social media," said Sigurðsson. The Thor concept has already been turned into a side-scrolling action game for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and is available for downloads on the iTunes App Store. In Cannes, Telepool will start discussing marketing strategies with world distributors.
