Fridriksson's film about a mother trying to find medical guidance and scientific explanation about her son's autism, sold 3,596 tickets from three prints in the Reykjavik area. It had by far the best screen average last weekend, twice the screen average of the second title at the Top Ten, Yes Man. "We are extremely pleased with the results, all the more considering it is a documentary film, "said distributor Konstantin Michaelson from Sena. The film was produced by Frontier Filmworks with Klick Production in Iceland with support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
Another Icelandic documentary is set to premiere soon: Feathered Cocaine by Thorkell Hardarson and Orn Marino Arnadson about the secret world of falconry produced by Propeller, Vidsyn and Biohljod.
Four other films are in post-production: Julius Kemp's splatter film Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre produced by Icelandic Film Company, is set to be ready for Cannes, just like Dagur Kári's first English language film The Good Heart produced by Zik Zak Filmworks. Undercurrent (Brim), a thriller by Arni Oli Asgeirsson also in Zik Zak's line-up and will be released by Sena in April or May. All three films were supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The English language film Inhale by Baltasar Kormákur, starring Dermot Mulroney, Diane Kruger, and Vincent Perez is also scheduled for a second quarter release by Sena.
Films set to start rolling include Fridrik Thor Fridriksson's black comedy Mamma Gogo, about a director struggling with his mother's illness and his financial problems. Shooting right now is X-mas' (working title) by the director of Cold Light Hilmar Oddsson. Five films have received at letter of intent from the IFC: Baldur by Robert Douglas (Eleven Men Out) and Hullabaloo (Gauragangur) by Gunnar Björn Gudmundsson (Astrópía) are both produced by Zik Zak. Summerland by first time director Grimur Hakonarson, is produced by Blueeyes Production, Stormland by Marteinn Thorsson (One Point One) is produced by Pegasus Pictures, and the animation film Thor-the Edda Chronicles by Gunnar Karlsson (Ana and The Woods) is produced by Caoz.
