Erik Leijonborg appointed Executive Producer at C More/TV4.
Leijonborg is one of Sweden’s most accomplished TV directors - The Last Kingdom S3, Thicker than Water and the move is described by Bonnier Broadcasting-owned streaming service C More and Swedish flagship channel TV4, as a reinforcement of the group’s Drama unit, and a step further in its long-term investment in high-quality Swedish original drama.
Leijonborg first developed his directing skills by assisting some of Sweden’s greatest directors, from Ingmar Bergman, Lars Molin to Mikael Håfström. His major breakthrough came in 2000 with the SVT mini-series Brotherhood. His most recent TV dramas include Netflix’s The Last Kingdom season 3, Farang, Maria Wern and Thicker than Water.
Leijonborg said: “After all my years as a director, I've reached a point where I want to share my experience, so when TV4 got in touch, it absolutely felt like the right challenge for me."
He continues: “The idea is that I will keep a hand in as a director while going in and working with TV4, becoming a natural part of their team.”
Josefine Tengblad, C More/TV4 Head of Drama who worked with Leijonborg on the Nordic noir Maria Wern said: “Erik will be a vital resource in the work to advance our drama projects in terms of content and quality, and an invaluable source for finding new creators and ideas.”
In a recent interview with us (CLICK HERE), Tengblad explained that C More/TV4’s goal is to co-produce a dozen TV dramas a year, and to always prioritise quality over volume.
The Danish thriller Greyzone starring Birgitte Hjort Sørensen and Ardalan Esmaili, was Bonnier Broadcasting’s streaming service C More’s most viewed TV series on a premiere date.
Upcoming original shows include The Hunters, The Conductor from St Petersburg, Hamilton, Sjölyckan, as well as new seasons of Beck, Sandhamn Murders and Maria Wern.
