Last weekend’s major accolades to the Norwegian and Danish series underpinned Nordic dramas’ longstanding quality value amid fierce international competition.

HBO’s first Norwegian Original produced by Rubicon TV achieved the highest audience score among 40+ international series from 21 countries showcased at Germany’s largest TV drama festival.

Five other Nordic TV shows were platformed at the 5th Seriencamp: the Finnish/German thriller Arctic Circle, soon to premiere on ZDF, the Swedish financial thriller Blinded, HBO’s Swedish Original Gösta and the Finnish/German/Belgian co-production Bullets, set to air on Germany’s RTL December 3.

Over 6,500 visitors attended Seriencamp at Munich’s University of Television and Film, while 380 accredited delegates signed up for the parallel industry event Seriencamp Conference (November 7-9).

Norway was out in force at the ‘Meet the Norwegians’ session, organised by the Norwegian Film Institute. Norwegian production companies invited to meet potential German partners comprised Anagram Norway, Maipo Film, Mer Film, Monday Scripted, Nordisk Film Production and Rubicon TV. Screenwriter Marte Sunde Härter was on hand to discuss the case study of NRK’s youth series 17.

Meanwhile the 25th Geneva International Film Festival (November 01-10) had selected 10 high-end TV shows for its International TV series competition programme including the UK’s Years and Years, Sweden’s Everything I Don’t Remember (SVT), Denmark’s Face to Face (Viaplay) and Deliver Us (DR). The international jury headed by US screenwriter Tom Fontana awarded its ‘Reflet d’or Best TV Series’ to Deliver Us created by Christian Torpe and Marie Østerbye for Motor and DR Drama.

The jury stated: “The Danish drama is one of those rare shows with the ability to draw and stun viewers from all background and tastes. Chilling and absorbing, Deliver Us shakes its characters with moral dilemmas which the audience can relate to and cannot help but fully engage in." Østerbye was at Geneva to pick up the award. The eight-part drama is currently airing on DR1 every Sunday at 8pm. It was licensed by Dynamic Television to Germany’s ZDFneo.
