The three-year film training programme is a joint initiative between Göteborg-born star actress Alicia Vikander, the Göteborg Film Festival and the Sten Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture.
The educational film programme meant to increase diversity in film and inspire new talents will take place in different high-schools around Göteborg in 2022.
Vikander who was awarded on Friday SEK 300,000 as scholarship grant from the Sten A Olsson Foundation for Research and Culture, said the prize money will be earmarked towards the Alicia Vikander Film Lab, on top of a private donation from her.
The Oscar-winning actress said: “I am so honoured to receive the Stena Foundation Fellowship. Having the chance to collaborate with the Göteborg Film Festival on the Film Lab, to inspire young people and create opportunity for them to explore the world of film is something I am hugely excited about.”
Vikander who took an active part in designing the lab will take part in selected workshops with the students.
The first Alicia Vikander Film Lab - starting January 2022 - will be led by the Göteborg Film Festival film teachers and every year, three to four new schools from different areas in the city will join the project. Film works created by the students will be presented at a gala event during the festival, unspooling in a hybrid form in 2022 from January 28 to February 6.
This year’s main festival theme will be ’Disorder’ with various talks and screenings, including the films Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn (Romania) by Golden Bear winner Radu Jude, Land of Dreams (US) by artist Shirin Neshat and co-director Shoja Azari, and The Falls (Taiwan) by Chung Mong-Hong.
