The Norwegian creator of Ella Bella Bingo is using the Pixar development method for his upcoming 3D animated feature to be pitched tomorrow at Annecy’s animation market.
The Legend of Magnus the Good is only one of eight titles to have been selected for the coveted MIFA Pitches, out of 96 international applications.
“It’s great to be back in Annecy after two years of Covid,” said Mosvold, director, producer and co-writer of the film through his company Kool Produktion. “We are looking forward to presenting our new project The Legend of Magnus the Good about a young Viking prince travelling in time and meeting three drag queens he mistakes for Valkyries. We are excited about all the buzz and interest the project has already received,” he said.
For his second feature-length animated feature based on an original storytelling, Mosvold has teamed up with international recognised UK animation screenwriters Rob Sprackling and Johnny Smith (Gnomeo & Juliet, The Queens Corgi), while the celebrated US illustrator and artist Carter Goodrich (Finding Nemo, Despicable Me, Ratatouille, How to Train your Dragon) serves as character designer.
The action comedy follows an immature Viking Prince, Magnus, who escapes his evil macho uncle by traveling through time from year 1030 to present-day Norway. Here he meets three drag queens who teach him what real courage is.
“We’re using the Pixar method of developing our project, working together with screenwriters, story artists and concept artist from the start and all through the development process,” explains Mosvold to nordicfilmandtvnews.com.
Kool Produktion’s ambitious project with an estimated €8 million budget, is produced in association with Gimpville, with co-producers Anders Mastrup from Denmark’s A-Film Production, and Jolanda Junte from Dutch outfit Phantavision Film. Mosvold who is looking in particular for German and/or French co-producers, has lined up meetings in Annecy with several interested co-producers and sales agents.
Kool Produktion’s Ella Bella Bingo was sold worldwide, notably in Denmark where it was the second biggest Norwegian family film since 2014 (over 42,000 admissions via Scanbox) despite its release during Covid.
Norway is also present at MIFA Pitches with the 3D TV pre-school series Yukon-Space Botanist (25x7’) directed by Martin Engh and Jakob Thommessen for Imaginar Film. Meta Media handles sales.
Meanwhile the Annecy Festival has selected the French/Danish Terra Incognita co-directed by Pernille M.A. Kjær and Adrian Dexter for its official short film competition. The 2D short about a mysterious island, inhabited by immortal beings who lead a pre-civilised life forgotten by time, is produced by France’s Ikki Films, in co-production with Flee’s Sun Creature Studio in Denmark and Insolence Productions in France.
