G Actors Agency run by actress Sara Zommorodi is providing under-represented Nordic actors a platform to better reach out to the industry and be seen.

Actress Zommorodi of Iranian origin, seen notably in Caliphate, Operation Ragnarok, is a fierce defender of better on-screen diversity in film and TV in the Nordics.

She was the first Swedish representative at the Women and Television International (WIFTI) and has recently been actively involved in supporting women’s protest in Iran through her short film Women Life Freedom – In Solidarity with the Brave Women of Iran, which screened at the Guldbagge gala last January.

She had the idea to set up G Actors Agency after being approached by producers and actors who expressed the need for such a platform and tool.

Her agency which has received backing from the Swedish Arts Council, has now over 100 registered acting talents. Her goal is to almost double this number and to reach out to talents all over the Nordics.

“We represent all actors that are under-represented - be it for ethnic, disability or other reasons, and have for instance two deaf actors on board. We help them with job opportunities, self-tapes, providing concrete feedback. The response so far from the actors and the industry itself has been amazing,” said Zommorodi who has recently secured jobs for two actors, including actress Zina Pirzadeh (Operation Ragnarok, Honour) who was cast in SVT Play’s youth series Från Trakten.

The launch in Cannes of the inclusion and diversity-focused acting agency was supported by the Swedish Film Institute, SF Studios, the casting portals Stagepool, Spotlight, and Film Commission Southern Sweden.

Spain-based Irish casting director Lucy Lenox (Hanna, Westworld) said: “Inclusion should already be part of the storytelling process to make the world a better place. If we don’t see change, it’s because we’re not doing a good enough job. We need to work harder to embrace everybody’s stories and tell different stories, she said. ”

Swedish actress Sara Shirpey (UFO Sweden, Out of Touch) who received the Stockholm Film Festival Rising Star Award 2022 told us: “G Actors Agency is a great idea-there are so many talents out from different backgrounds, who haven’t - yet- had the chance to break into the industry. Things have definitely improved since I started -5/6 years ago - but there is still much more to do.”
