A total of 22 projects for children and youth will be pitched at the Malmö event (March 14-16) that will focus on how to engage with the target group.

“Finland has sent us fabulous projects from highly skilled producers and creators and will have the biggest presence,” said Annette Brejner, head of The Financing Forum for Kids Content event.

Six Finnish projects will be looking for co-financing:

  • Selma Vilhunen’s second feature Stupid Young Heart (Tuffi Films),
  • film Malcolm the Maggot and His Bug Band (MRP Matila Röhr Productions),
  • animated TV series Planet Z (Pyjama Films),
  • documentary by Paul-Anders Simma Dear Mother (Safi Oy),
  • TV series Steffi  (Five Corners production),
  • documentary Maiden of the Lake by Petteri Saario (Pohjola-filmi) part of the Real Young initiative set up with IDFA and EDN.

Sweden has four projects:

  • Ibracadabra, Karzan Kader’s second feature after Bekas (TMV),
  • film In the Land of Wonder (Anagram Film & TV),
  • No Child’s Land written by Niclas Ekström (Dragon Films)
  • TV series/multiplatform project Meaty Martha (Cinenic Film).

Norway will pitch the TV series Jonah’s Animal World (Flimmer Film) and Denmark the documentary My Faith (Klassefilm), another Real Young project.

Breijner is pleased to welcome Turkey for the first time with the feature project The Bus to America, and a record three projects from Poland.

“Many of the projects selected deal with humanistic and social/political issues and have slightly turned away from the fantasy genre,” noted Brejner. “But there is a real progress in producers’ understanding of the target group compared to five years ago.”

As part of March 14’s Opening Industry Day dedicated to kids’ content engagement, immersion and inspiration, two case studies of successful brands sold worldwide will be introduced by their creators: Anttu Hartlin (Gigglebug Entertainment) will present the Finnish pre-school cross media brand Gigglebug, and Norwegian producer Kristine Knudsen and writer/co-director Reza Memari the animated feature Richard the Stork.

Panellists invited to discuss ‘What Makes us stand out? The Nordic prospect of Success’ include Jonas Forth, Director of Moomin.com/All Things Commerce Helsinki and Jean-Philippe Randisi, CEO Zodiak Kids.

Other keynote speakers will discuss the eco-system of the gaming industry, new forms of storytelling, and how to embrace your audience.

More than 30 international financiers, distributors, broadcasters will attend the 11th Financing Forum supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
