The Danish and Norwegian shows are both sold internationally by DR Sales.

Helene Aurø, Sales and Marketing Director told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “As one of the major sales agent of Nordic TV dramas, I’m absolutely thrilled to bring these two brand new series, and the selection at the Berlinale among seven carefully picked world TV shows, is a recognition of their outstanding quality and originality. Both series have been teased at TV markets and the response has been excellent from world broadcasters, as well as DVD and VOD players.”

The two character-driven series are very different in genres and point to the move away from pure Nordic noir from Scandinavian creators.

Liberty (5x58’) is a critical examination of the lasting effects of colonialism, set in 1980s Tanzania, in the milieu of aid workers and ex-pats. DR Drama’s flagship series was adapted by creator/head writer Asger Leth (Ghosts of Cité Soleil, Man on a Ledge) from the novel ‘Liberty’ by Jakob Ejersbo. Karoline Leth (The Legacy) is producing and Call Girl’s Mikael Marcimain is directing. Key cast members Connie Nielsen, Carsten Bjørnlund, Anton Hjejle and Charlie Karumi will attend the Berlinale series. Liberty will premiere on DR1 on February 25.

Home Ground (Heimebane) created by Johan Fasting, centres on female coach Helena Mikkelsen (Ane Dahl Torp), struggling to make it as Europe’s first female coach for a men’s team in the National Premier league in Norway. Producer Vilje Kathrine Hagen of Motlys Film told nrk.no she was thrilled to be the first Norwegian series attending the Berlinale series, held alongside the Berlin  Film Festival.

The show will premiere on NRK in March 2018.  The Berlinale Series will open with the TV adaptation of the Australian cult classic Picnic at Hanging Rock starring Natalie Dormer.

Drama series part of the Berlinale Coproduction Market will be announced later. The Berlin Drama Series Days will run February 19-21,2018.
