London-based distributor has added NRK’s innovative procedural For Life to its MIP TV slate.
London-based distributor has added NRK’s innovative procedural For Life to its MIP TV slate.
The Monster Scripted series is backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
The 8x60’ series For Life is created and written by International Emmy Award-winning Gjermund S. Eriksen (Mammon) and co-written by Helena Nielsen (Lilyhammer). For Life follows National Crime Service investigator Victoria Woll (Eyewitness, ZombieLars) across two different timelines: the present, where we see her solving cases, and in the future, where she is in prison. Every episode features a standalone case as its main story, along with new clues about Victoria’s other situation as we see her fight for her freedom several years down the line. In the main roles are Iselin Shumba (ZombieLars), Ingar Helge Gimle (Rekyl), Judy Karanja (Valkyrien), Hallvard Holmen (Magnus), Vidar Sandem (Mammon) and Mattis Herman Nyquist (Nobel).
Monster Scripted CEO Håkon Briseid says he wants to show world audiences that “Nordic high production values and clever storylines don’t’ always have to be dark, gloomy and founded in fear and anxiety.” For Life will also have “joy, humour, warmth and hope which will add new layers of contrast to the episodic crime universe. In this way, we hope what we are terming a ‘Happy Noir’ approach can build a more complete emotional experience for viewers,” notes Briseid.
Dave Clarke, DRG’s EVP of content said: “Strong Scandinavian scripted titles have worked well for us in the international marketplace, and we are confident that by having a different style of Nordic drama on offer, this series will attract early interest as we take it out for pre-sale at MIPTV this year.” For Life will premiere later this year on the Norwegian public broadcaster.
DRG will also represent in Cannes NRK’s event show 22 July (6x60’) that explores how ordinary people responded to the atrocities committed by Anders Breivik on 22 July 2011. The show co-created by Sara Johnsen and Pål Sletaune will premiere on NRK early 2020.
The Swedish political drama The Inner Circle created by Håkan Lindhé was nominated for the 2019 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize for Best Nordic Screenplay. The 8x60’ series produced by Fundament Film premiered on Viaplay early March.
NENT Group’s global distributor DRG will also offer The Inner Circle on the ready-made scripted format market, alongside the Norwegian drama Rekyl.
