The Stockholm-based production company has secured distribution in North America, the UK, Australia/New Zealand.
Nordic rights are in advanced negotiations.
First announced at last year’s MIPTV in Cannes, the English-language procedural Cannes Confidential is scheduled to start filming early 2021. AMC Networks’ streamer Acorn TV, specialised in British and international TV content, is the main commissioner.
Penned by UK-based head-writer Christ Murray (Midsomer Murders) with Maria Ward, the 8x45’ blue sky series blends comedy, mystery and crime.
The main protagonists are an idealistic and ambitious female cop and an ex con-man on the run both from the police and the mob.
Dramacorp’s co-founder Patrick Nebout told nordicfilmandtvnews.com that part of the main cast and guest-stars will be Scandinavian. “We are looking for a distinctive look and voice for the series, the same way La-La Land brought a distinctive look and feel to the musical film genre. So a Scandinavian director, DOP and/ or set designer onboard the show is something you can expect,” he said.
Nebout is executive producing alongside Dramacorp’s creative director Henrik Jansson-Schweizer. The pair are credited for the successful series Midnight Sun, Thicker than Water among others.
The first English-language procedural drama set on the French Riviera since the iconic 1970s series The Persuaders, is part of a slate of upcoming international TV shows created by the Beta Film joint-venture Dramacorp.
Other productions include the Nent Group/Viaplay-commissioned YA horror Cryptid, selected for this fall’s Canneseries’ short form competition programme.
