Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt welcomes “strong film and TV productions” to Denmark.

The Danish government has announced a new production rebate scheme aimed at transforming Denmark into a European hub for film and TV production.

For years, Denmark has struggled to attract film and TV productions, ranking low in European competition.

Netflix's plans for 2024-2026 highlight this issue, with 16 productions in Sweden, 6 in Norway, and only 3 in Denmark. However, this trend is set to change.

Starting in 2026, Denmark will allocate EUR 17 million (DKK 125 million) annually to the rebate scheme. In comparison, Sweden's scheme next year is about half this amount, Finland is allocating EUR 12 million and Norway EUR 11.2 million (5.15 - 6.86 mill to new productions). Iceland is offering a rebate of 35% of eligible costs, and does not have a official ceiling on the budget.

Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt stated: "Denmark has a strategic interest in hosting strong film and TV productions.”

The Minister will consult with the industry to gather input on the best design for the rebate scheme, which is expected to launch in 2026.
