Denmark’s Mis.Label and Norway’s Star Media Entertainment (SME) are the new joint-owners of the Swedish distribution company Noble Entertainment, just acquired from Forestlight Entertainment for an estimated SEK 10 million.

Well established on the DVD/Blue Ray market for over two decades, Mis.Label and SME have become more aggressive in acquiring rights for all windows as a response to falling DVD revenues. Since 2007, they have strengthened their position in the Scandinavian market by forming an acquisition alliance with Noble Entertainment and Finland’s Future Film.

René Sørensen, (pictured)  Managing Director for Mis.Label and Noble Entertainment sees the acquisition of their Swedish ally as a step further in their Scandinavian expansion and to get more involved in local productions.

Well established on the DVD market for over two decades, Mis.Label and SME have recently expanded into the theatrical arena and become more aggressive in acquiring all rights to mainstream US titles, smaller European and genre films such as The Expendables and Silver Lining Playbook. Since 2007, the partners have been acquiring films and TV series at world markets along with Noble and Finland’s Future Film. “We are very excited for the acquisition of Noble Entertainment and to reinforce the Scandinavian cooperation in which Sweden is an important market. We have a long experience of our business and welcome Noble Entertainment into a new and stronger film distribution in Scandinavia", said René Sørensen, Managing Director for Mis.Label and Noble Entertainment.

Sørensen expanded by stating “We feel that our international slate is fine, with a good balance of mainstream US films, smaller arthouse and genre films, but we want be more active in local films (released theatrically in Denmark via UIP) and feel there is room for another strong player in the Danish market.”

Mis.Label has also recently partnered Bullitt Film on some of their upcoming feature projects such as The Famous Five: An Adventure based on Enid Blyton’s legendary children’s stories, and has invested in Morten BH’s feature debut produced by Fridthjof Film, with Paprika Steen in the lead. Star Media Entertainment also is involved in Norwegian films, released theatrically via Euforia.

Upcoming releases on the Scandinavian alliance’s line up include Pedro Almodovar’s I’m So Excited and the Coen brothers’ Cannes competition entry Inside Llewyn Davis.
