The Finnish director serves as concept director and executive producer on the Channel 4 original series Alice & Jack, penned and created by Mad Men’s Victor Levin.
The limited series will be Kuosmanen’s first foray into English-language speaking, after his multi-awarded Finnish features The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (2016) and Compartment No6 (2021). The auteur filmmaker will direct the first episodes, with Hong Khaou (Lilting) attached to the second block.
Alice & Jack toplines Andrea Riseborough (Birdman, The Death of Stalin) and Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, The Patient) as a couple who inhabit completely different worlds but are drawn inexorably towards each other from the moment they meet.
The love story is being produced by Fremantle, Me+You Productions (I am Ruth), Groundswell Productions (The Visitor) and De Maio Entertainment for UK broadcaster Channel 4. Filming took place in the Summer 2022 between London, South East England and Gran Canaria. Fremantle handles global distribution.
Kuosmanen also has in the pipeline the major series Yours, Margot for which he won a €50,000 Beta Development Award at the last Series Mania, with his long-time production partner Jussi Rantamäki of Aamu Film Company. The eight-part series based on the debut novel by Finnish journalist and author Meri Valkama is written by Andri Feldmanis and Livia Ulman, behind Kuosmanen’s 2021 Cannes Grand Prix winner Compartment No6.
