The Cannes Market held from May 13 to 22, parallel to the Cannes Film Festival has announced an increase by around 5% of all its participants as well as of buyers registered compared to last year (as of end of April).

The increase was verified across all parts of the world, and more particularly for Latin America (up 12%). Countries attending for the first time include Qatar, Niger, Ethiopia, Mozambique and Dominican Republic. Over 2,000 producers are registered, up 10% from 2009. Around 600 of them will attend Producers Network.

According to Cannes Market, a larger number of sales agents and distributors have turned to film production, which partly explains the higher participation of producers at the market. Trends in production such as animation and cross media will be discussed at Producers Network's various events and for the third year, documentary filmmaking will have its own Focus on May 18. A special brunch will reunite major documentary players such as Frederick Wiseman, Patricio Guzman, peter Liechti, John Battsek and Catherine Leclef.
