Projects developed for new media had been discussed at the previous BUFF:FF, but according to event organizer Annette Brejner, this is the first time that the Forum - the only co-production and co-financing platform for children and youth projects in Scandinavia - is dedicating an entire day on the subject. This new development is directly linked to a financial support for the next three years worth SEK 900,000 (around €92,000) that BUFF:FF has received from the EU and the City of Malmö for its project Malmö Media Evolution/BUFF:FF Focus on Cross Media.
"By attending our Cross Media seminar, participants can access the 20 companies or so working in this field in the region as well as universities involved in new technologies," explains Brejner.
During today's ‘Cross Media innovation Hub' seminar, Swedish filmmaker Josef Fares and his producer Mathias Gullbrandson will discuss their new game project The Story Lab, and Nils Stokke, head of Children's NRK Super will present ‘Superia', the Norwegian broadcaster's cross media success for children.
The main focus for BUFF:FF remains co-production and co-financing of children and youth projects. This year, 20 projects worth a total of €50m were selected by BUFF:FF steering group. Among the projects are the Danish animation feature film Carlo's Casino by Jan Rahbek (Thomas Borch Nielsen Production) and The Core. The Swedish project produced by Anna Knochendauer received development support from Nordisk Film & TV Fond, as well as Carlo's Casino which won the Nordic Talents Pitch Prize in 2008.
At the BUFF festival that runs until tomorrow, the main Children and Youth competition programmes have selected seven Nordic films, such as Finland's Forbidden Fruit, Sweden's Sebbe, Norway's Vegas and Denmark's Super Brother and The Apple and the Worm.
