Following its successful world premiere in Venice, Lukas Moodysson’s We Are the Best had packed screenings in Toronto where it screened in the Special Presentations section and was picked up by several key territories. TrustNordisk closed deals with Australia (NewVision Films), Italy (Bim Distribuzione) and Taiwan (Maison Motion) with a number of territories still in negotiation. Previously announced territories include the UK (Metrodome), Benelux (Wildbunch), Switzerland (Frenetic Films), former Yugoslavia (Continental Film) and Lithuania (Scanorama). Veteran Australian buyer Frank Cox from New Vision Films said: “Moodysson knows well how to dig into the soul and feelings of his teenage female protagonists. Older audiences will find an affinity and relive the 80's culture and their own past youthful selves in this feel–good and immensely entertaining movie.”
The film produced by Memfis Film was supported by Nordisk Film & TV Fond. The Swedish release is set for October 11, 2013.
The Toronto International Film Festival’s Industry Office accredited 4,743 industry delegates this year, a 10% growth over 2012. Among the festival’s top awards given out on Sunday are Blackberry People’s Choice Award to Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave and the Blackberry People’s Choice Award to the Egyptian documentary The Square by Jehane Noujaim.
