Malmö-born Swedish actress Julia Ragnarsson (pictured) was chosen as this year’s ‘Rising Star’ at the 25th Stockholm International Film Festival that closed last weekend. Ragnarsson has appeared in the crime series The Bridge and most recently in the Swedish comedy Tillbaka till Bromma and Danish film Itsi Bitsi by Ole Christian Madsen. “With a liberating sense of fearlessness this year’s Rising Star winner has delivered two completely different performances in two features this year. With intelligence and a palpable sense of pleasure for her work she turns the expected unexpected,“ stated the jury. 

Stockholm’s main Bronze Horse award went to the French film Girlhood by Celine Sciamma which also won Best Cinematography.  Up and coming Swedish director Ninja Thyberg, who won the Canal+ award in Cannes 2013 for her short film Pleasure, grabbed this year’s 1 Km Film Scholarship for her 15 minute Hot Chicks
