The Swedish documentary filmmaker Maria Bäck who had moved the 200+ Nordic Talents audience with her poetic 30 minute film Mother is God portraying her mentally-ill mother, ended up winning the top NOK 250,000 Nordic Talents Pitch Prize for her project I Remember When I Die in which patients will be asked to choose the memory they will think of when they die.
The five member jury comprising Icelandic producer Agnes Johansen, filmmaker Ruben Östlund, YLE Commissioner Erkki Astala, filmmaker Tobias Lindholm, and Norwegian Film Institute’s Documentary Commissioner Kristine Ann Skaret stated about Maria Bäck: “It's hard to deal with heavy subjects in a light manner. But here we have a filmmaker who not only has the courage and skill to do that but who already has developed a specific, coherent visual language, and who is able to invest herself wholeheartedly into the film."
Synopsis: I Remember When I Die explores memories, relationship with matter, the value of remembering and the fear of being forgotten. Set in a hospice, the dying cast is asked to choose the memory they will think of when they die.
