Sagafilm’s neo noir series Stella Blómkvist starring Heida Reed has been picked up by the Nordic streaming giant.
The first Icelandic Viaplay Original has started filming in Reykjavik, with Black Game’s Óskar Thor Axelsson behind the camera. Sagafilm’s Head of Script Jóhann Ævar Grímsson (The Nightshift, Trapped) is head writer, working alongside Andri Óttarsson (Case) and Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir.
“It’s exciting to be a part of building the slate of Viaplay originals with Stella Blómkvist. The series is Sagafilm’s most ambitious project to date and we are thrilled to have Viaplay as our Scandinavian partner in the project along with Siminn our local broadcaster in Iceland”, said Hilmar Sigurdsson CEO of Sagafilm, in Iceland.
The 3x90’ (or 6x45’) show will be the first local TV drama commissioned by the Icelandic telco Siminn. Published under a pseudonym, the Stella Blomkvist series features the hard-nosed lawyer of the same name who takes on mysterious and often dangerous murder cases and fights against powerful men.
Red Arrow International who handles world sales will launch the series at MIPCOM 2017.
