Kim Cattrall is going to play a US President in season 2 of the Swedish show produced by Miso Film for C More/TV4.
The UK/Canadian star was Golden Globe nominated for her part as Samantha Jones in the iconic series Sex and the City. In Modus season 2, she plays the American president who comes to Stockholm for a state visit that end up having unexpected and devastating consequences.
“I am pleased to be joining Modus, season 2 and am looking forward to spending time in Sweden, a country which I have always wanted to visit,” said Cattrall. “As a fan of the great Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, I look forward to my time here.”
Producer Sandra Harms of Miso Film Sweden said: “In a time when no one can keep their eyes off US politics and its implications far beyond America’s borders, Modus season 2 moves into the international arena. Kim is not only a fantastic actress with great authority, but also highly engaged and informed in US politics, which has already added a lot to the character and the story.
Emmy-award winning writers Mai Brostrøm and Peter Thorsboe have again written the script for Modus season 2, loosely based on Norwegian crime queen Anne Holt’s novels in the Vik/Stubø franchise. Melinda Kinnaman and Henrik Norlen reprise their roles as psychologist and profiler Inger Hojanne Vik and her partner detective Ingvar Nymann who investigate a series of murders in Stockholm.
In season 2 that unrolls two years after the closing episode of season 1, the twist is that the two characters’ relationship has evolved and deepened as… Inger becomes pregnant.
Harms said in a statement: “The idea from the beginning was that Inger Johanne and Ingvar would move in together after season 1 and during season 2, they would find out that they were expecting a child. But then Melinda changed the plan as she became pregnant in real life, so we had to adjust the content, which proved to be even more exciting! We come closer to them in this season partly because they become a couple expecting a baby and partly because Inger Johanne during season 2 has to confront some dark secrets from his past.”
The eight-part original C More series will premiere exclusively on the streaming service in the autumn and after on TV4.
Season 1 was a big audience and critical success when it premiered on TV4 in 2015, with an average 1.1 viewers and a high of 1,745,408 for the opening episode (1,326,000 live plus 419,000 on catch up TV). The crime show also scored in Norway (more than 1 million viewers for E1 on TV2), the UK (more than 650,000 viewers for E1 on BBC4) and Germany (2.65 million viewers for E1 on ZDF). Modus was also sold to the rest of Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Spain, Japan, Australia, the Baltics, Eastern Europe, Greece, Israel, Italy, Korea, Latin America and Portugal.
