The high concept series Valkyrien (8x52’) co-created by Thomas Seeberg Torjussen and Erik Richter Strand was produced by Tordenfilm for NRK. Set in contemporary Oslo in the shadows of the welfare state, the series focuses on a physician (Sven Nordin) who runs an illegal clinic while secretly treating his dying wife (Pia Halvorsen).
Walter Iuzzolino, curator of Channel 4's free VOD platform Walter Presents which specialises in foreign language drama, said: “Valkyrien is a totally unique thriller which raises the quality bar and totally redefines standards of excellence for European scripted drama. The high calibre of the cast and stunning production values make this THE must have show of the year.’
Valkyrien is set to air on NRK1 on January 1st 2017 and later in the year on Walter Presents.
The Norwegian political/war drama Nobel directed by Per-Olav Sørensen for Monster Scripted just finished airing on NRK1 last Sunday and had 703,000 viewers on linear TV. NRK expects the last episode to reach about 1.2 million with online viewing. The TSR (Total Screen rating) for episode 1 passed 1.3 viewers.
“We are satisfied’ said NRK Head of Drama Ivar Køhn. “The show had stable numbers on linear TV and it played great on the net with more than 1 million viewers every week.”
The TV show stars starring Aksel Hennie, Tuva Novotny and Anders Danielsen Lie. Further deals are soon to be announced by DRG.
Both Valkyrien and Nobel were backed by Nordisk Film & TV Fond.
