Co-starring with Hagen are Christian Rubeck (Nobel) and Ruby Dagnall (Skam).

The ambitious Norwegian film Amundsen is produced by Espen Horn and Kristian Strand Sinkerud of Motion Blur (The 12th Man) as well as John M.Jacobsen on behalf of SF Studios, with support from the Norwegian Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fond. SF Studios also handles distribution in Scandinavia and world sales.

Sandberg’s first Norwegian film since Kon-Tiki (2012), is based on a script by Ravn Lanesskog (The Last King) about Amundsen’s life and achievements. Pål Sverre Hagen (Valkyrien) plays the polar explorer, Christian Rubeck his brother Leon Amundsen, Ruby Dagnall is Leon’s wife Aline, and Ida Ursin-Holm (The Lion Woman) is Kiss Bennet, one of Roald Amundsen’s greatest love interests.

After Iceland, the cast and crew will move to the Czech Republic and Norway (Svartskog and Oslo). Espen Horn told nordicfilmandtvnews.com: “We will stay a relatively short period in Iceland where we will capture the iconic expeditions of Roald Amundsen. We have a full unit of 100 men and women alongside a very competent second unit team. They are presently shooting on top of the Langjökull glacier with dogs and men, towards the South Pole.”

Besides Amundsen’s achievements as the first explorer to reach the South Pole and the first to make a ship voyage through the Northwest Passage, the film will focus on aspects of his life little know to the general audience. “Roald Amundsen’s impressive explorations are all well documented, but his personal life is largely untold. Privately he was an equally fascinating person. He lied and betrayed the persons closest to him to achieve his professional goals, but the price he paid personally was high. This is also the story about Roald's brother, Leon, who faithfully helped his brother for more than 20 years,” noted Horn.

The film is set to open in February 2019.
