At their latest Board meeting, Nordisk Film & TV Fond and its Board of Directors have agreed to implement policy changes to match the increased quality and ambition of feature films, documentaries and TV dramas from the Nordic region and to highlight its position as top financier.
The key changes are the following:
- Nordisk Film & TV Fond will allocate higher than average support to 2-4 ambitious Nordic quality feature films or TV dramas a year targeting first the Nordic and secondly the international market. This will most likely result in fewer projects being supported on a yearly basis.
- A minimum of 50% of the Fund’s annual production spend on Fiction will be allocated to feature films. The gradual increase of support to TV drama over the past couple of years (From 36% in 2014 to 46% in 2015) reflects the growing quality and volume of Nordic TV dramas and booming demand from the international market.
- Support to documentary films will increase by 20% from NOK 8 million in 2015 to NOK 9.5 million in 2016.
- Nordisk Film & TV Fond will focus on New Nordic Talents mainly through the annual Nordic Talents event in Copenhagen, but also through its support to Film Cultural initiatives and Nordic Genre Boost special scheme.
Furthermore, the Board of Directors is in the process of readjusting the Fund´s statutes and objectives regarding distribution support to take into consideration platform neutrality and audience potential.
In 2015, Nordisk Film & TV Fond supported 22 feature films, 17 TV dramas and 20 documentary films. The Fund allocated 31 single distribution grants and 4 slate grants.
The Fund has an annual budget of approximately DKK 80 million split between the Nordic Council of Ministers, the five Nordic film institutes and 11 Nordic broadcasting partners.
