The two French major companies will co-finance and co-distribute the horror tale written by Refn with Mary Laws “One morning I woke up and realised I was both surrounded and dominated by women,” said the director. “Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty. After making Drive and falling madly in love with the electricity of Los Angeles, I knew I had to return to tell the story of The Neon Demon.”
Borglum is starting to look for co-financiers in Scandinavia for the Danish project set to shoot in Los Angeles in the first quarter of 2015. The female-led casting will be announced later this year, but crew members confirmed include DoP Philippe Le Sourd and Drive and Only God Forgives editor Matthew Newman and composer Cliff Martinez.
Martinez was also involved in the documentary My Life Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, the behind the scene of the making of Only God Forgives captured by the director’s wife Liv Corfixen. The film produced by Space Rocket Nation will have its Swedish premiere at the Stockholm International Film Festival.
