Quicksand’s Per-Olav Sørensen will direct the limited series based on the book Spotify Untold by journalists Sven Carlsson and Jonas Leijonhufvud.
The untitled scripted series to be shot in English and Swedish languages, will be the second Netflix Original produced by Yellow Bird UK, after Young Wallander.
As mentioned earlier on our website (CLICK HERE) the book Spotify Untold is a behind-the-scenes story of how the young Swedish tech entrepreneur Daniel Ek and his financial partner Martin Lorentzon, built their start-up Spotify and turned it into a global music sensation. Co-authors Carlsson and Leijonhufvud will act as consultants on the TV adaptation.
Executive producer Berna Levin said the Spotify success story is ‘truly a tale for our time.” “Not only is this a story about the way all our lives have changed in the last decade, it’s about the battle for cultural and financial influence in a globalised, digitised world,” she noted.
Per-Olav Sørensen who directed Netflix’s Swedish original Quicksand and Norwegian rom-com Home for Christmas, described this new show as "an on-going fairytale in modern history about how Swedish wiz kids changed the music industry forever.” He continues: “The story is truly exciting and challenging. Challenging because the Spotify story has not ended yet-it is still running with high speed and will probably change while we work on the project.”
Tesha Crawford, Director of International Originals Northern Europe at Netflix said: “The founding tale of Spotify is a great example of how a local story can have a global impact. We are really excited about bringing this success story to life and we look forward to continuing our great collaboration with director Per-Olav Sørensen and the team at Yellow Bird UK.”
Levin told nordicfilmandtvnews.com that the series will shoot “wherever the story takes us, so mainly Stockholm, but also New-York and possibly London.”
Banijay Group’s Yellow Bird UK just wrapped filming this week the six-part series Young Wallander starring Adam Pålsson, Richard Dillane and Leanne Best. The premiere is set for 2020.
