The third season of DR's cult crime series Forbrydelsen (The Killing) has just started filming. The global financial crisis is the backdrop for police officer Sarah Lund's new investigation spanning over the 10 part series.

Some of Denmark's finest actors including Dirch Passer, screen avatar Nikolaj Lie Kaas have joined lead actress Sophie Gråbøl and Morten Suurballe (pictured left to right).

Lead writer Søren Sveistrup has again used the main crime thread as a roundabout way to analyze our Western world. According to a statement from DR, the story focuses on a seemingly random crime of a sailor that leads Copenhagen's Deputy Superintendent Lund into the financial world, the State Department and into society's darkest side. The series' concept director is Mikkel Serup who worked on DR's Emmy-award-winning crime series The Protectors (Livvagterne) and the DoP is Marcel Zyskind (Wallander). Alongside  Nikolaj Lie Kaas are Olaf Heine Johannessen, Trine Pallesen, Jonatan Spang, Sigurd Holmen Le Dous, Helle Fagralid, Anders W. Berthelsen and Stig Hoffmeyer.

Forbrydelsen III is scheduled to premiere on DR1 in September 2012. The second season is currently playing on French Arte and will be broadcast on BBC4 in the UK in October.

The two foreign channels are also planning to air later this year DR's other hit series Borgen (Government) while Danish viewers will have the privilege to discover the second season of the political thriller starting this Sunday evening on DR1 and DR HD at 20.00. No doubt Danes who have just elected their first female Prime Minister - Helle Thorning-Schmidt- will be glued to their TV sets to follow the life chronicle of Prime Minister Brigitte Nyborg (aka Sidse Babett Knudsen) in ten more episodes.
