In line with its increased support to the film and audiovisual sector since 2005 to bring Norway to a leading position within the Nordic region, the Norwegian government has decided to up its support for film, audiovisual and computer works by NOK47 million to a total of NOK706 million in 2012.

NOK423 million of that amount will consist of direct support to audiovisual production via the Norwegian Film Institute. The increased budget will allow for a special focus on new film talents and improved gender equality within film production.

Three sectors in particular will get a healthy boost.
- Regional film centres will be granted an extra NOK5.4 million and total public support for the production of shorts, documentaries, talent development and children and youth initiatives in the regions will reach NOK51.7 million, three times the 2005 level.

-Computer games will get at least NOK5 million extra funds, to double the contributions to the industry from 2011 until 2013.

-TV Drama will be injected another NOK2.5 million to reach NOK32 million, double the 2010 level which was NOK16 million.
Since 2005, the Norwegian government has raised its support to the film and audiovisual industries by NOK261 million. The increase to production alone is NOK 183 million.
