With an annual budget of DKK15m (€2m), Rå Film intends to subsidise five to seven new feature films in 2008, with a potential audience of 75,000. The maximum budget for each project applying is DKK10m (€1.35m) and each one can receive up to DKK3m (€400,000). To be eligible, the projects must have an original approach and artistic ambition, as well as reflect the demands from the marketplace. Rå Film is a mix between the DFI's existing Feature Film 60/40 production scheme and Feature Film Consultant scheme. By fixing a financial cap, the aim is to force the local film producers and directors to explore new ways to tell stories and make films.
The creation of the new Fund is the result of several months of discussions within the Danish film industry, keen to re-instil new energy and inspiration into the local film production. DFI CEO Henrik Bo Nielsen said: "We have to listen to the signals from the market. It's important to be flexible when the market indicates a need for other types of film projects. Also, we hope to gain experiences that may be useful to us in the longer term as well."
The projects will be evaluated by a five-person editorial committee comprising DFI film consultants Molly Malene Stensgaard, Thomas Krag, project coordinator Kim Leona, plus two external professionals with knowledge of the marketplace. There will be two rounds of applications for Rå Film: in May and September 2008.
