The seasoned TV executive who has worked within the Warner family for the past ten years, will oversee the US group’s full operations in the Nordic region including Kanal5, discovery+ and HBO Max.
Sulebakk’s wide responsibilities will be to run Warner Bros. Discovery’s networks and services, the marketing and monetisation of US and local content across the US giant’s businesses including theatrical, licensing, consumer products, games and home entertainment. She will also be responsible for developing territory-specific strategies to drive growth and efficiency.
She will report to James Gibbons, General Manager UK and the Nordics, on an interim basis, until he takes over his new management role in APAC (Asia Pacific) later this year. By then Sulebakk will report to Priya Dogra, President & MD, Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA, excluding Poland.
Until now, Sulebakk has been General Manager HBO Max in EMEA. As such, she has played a prominent role in the launch of HBO Max in 21 countries across Europe. Prior to that, she has held various key positions at WarnerMedia such as Executive VP, Chief Marketing Officer and Head of Distribution, HBO Europe.
“Christina is a very talented leader who has played a major role in building our streaming business in key markets across Europe,” said Priya Dogra. “Her expertise in streaming, deep understanding of our businesses and connection with the region means she will be a key force in driving our business forward in these important markets.”
Sulebakk added: “I'm thrilled to be leading Warner Bros. Discovery in the Nordics together with a talented team across the region. Warner Bros. Discovery has one of the richest content portfolios in the market and with availability on every screen, we have a great and unique opportunity to meet and entertain viewers whenever and wherever they want.”
In recent months, Warner Bros. Discovery has introduced an ad-supported version of its discovery+ streaming service at a lower cost across the Nordics. Sweden was the latest country to offer this new ad-supported package for SEK49 a month from June 1st, next to the standard Entertainment subscription at SEK89 a month.
Prior to its merger with WarnerMedia finalised in April, Discovery has been steadily upping its investment in local content over the last couple of years.
Recent series that have been critical and commercial successes include the Swedish series produced by FLX Suburbia (Vi i villa), nominated for the Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize 2022 and thriller The Dark Heart (Mörkt Hjärta) selected for Sundance and Series Mania, while the Norwegian youth drama Everything You Love (Alt du elsker), produced by The Oslo Company, was awarded the Student Award-Best Short Form Series at Canneseries.
